Using Nokia handset with Birmingham Campus WIFI (Eduroam) system
(should work with all symbian 60 3d edition OSes)

Both the original author and I hope this will be of use to others.

The instructions are for use of the 'eduroam' network. I presume that some minor variant will work for 'uobwlan'.

He used the instructions below to set up a Nokia E65 for both Eduroam and UOBWLAN.
Some menus had very slightly different names but everything was in the right place.
There was a problem with the link to the GTECybertrust certificate below, but he was able to download it to his desktop then email it to the phone.

Using Nokia handset N82 V11.0.117 with Birmingham Campus WIFI system 

1. Download a root certificate using 3G from
http://www.wireless.bham.ac.uk/certificates/GTECybertrustGlobalRoot.cer
and install it

2. Go to Menu -> Tools -> Setting -> Connection -> Access Points

3. Press Options -> New Access Point and set the following

    Connection name: Education Roaming

    Data bearer: Wireless LAN

    WLAN netrok name: eduroam

    Network status: Public

    WLAN mode: Infrastructure

    WLAN security mode: 802.1x

4. Go to WLAN security settings

    WPA/WPA2: EAP

5. Go to EAP plug-in settings  and enable just EAP-PEAP

6. Go to option and enable the fallowing

    Personal certificate: Not defined

    Authority certificate: Cypertrust Educational

    User name in use: User defined

    User name: YOURUSERNAME

    Real in use: User defined

    Realm: bham.ac.uk

    Allow all PEAP versions

7. Press right and select EAP-MCHAPv2 authentication method,

8. Go to options and enable the fallowing

    User name: YOURUSERNAME

    Prompt password: No

    Password: YOURPASSWORD

9. Exit your settings manager and enjoy free wireless on most of the
European university campuses
