POPLOG FOR AMD 64-BIT CPU RUNNING LINUX Updated: 11 Jun 2005 This is a test version of AMD64 Poplog based on linux poplog version 15.6 Available here: http://www.cs.bham.ac.uk/research/poplog/v15.6 The AMD64 version included in this tar file is available in http://www.cs.bham.ac.uk/research/poplog/v15.6-amd64 That is where updates will be provided. The conversion to AMD64 was done by Waldek Hebisch, starting from linux poplog version 15.53. His patch file was applied to the v15.6 sources as described in http://www.math.uni.wroc.pl/~hebisch/poplog/amd64-poplog.html and http://www.cs.bham.ac.uk/research/poplog/amd64/ Tests of this system led to various bug-fixes supplied by Waldek and installed in this system. However, there are still things that do not work as expected, including some of the X window facilities. There may also be problems with saved images which is why the version of pop/com/mkstartup provided here has been altered to remove -nonwriteable, which caused problems with lconstant local structures in lib rc_window_object Also, if 64-bit poplog is liked with motif, then clicking on the 'close' button on graphical windows produced by pop11 kills the poplog process instead of simply closing the window. This does not happen if poplog is linked without motif. So this version is linked without motif, and XVed therefore does not have menus or scrollbar. You can run 32bit linux poplog linked with motif on a 64bit AMD athlon. In fact it will run a bit faster for most applications.. Nevertheless this seems to be a highly usable version of Poplog. Please report any problems to the poplog-dev email list AT cs.bham.ac.uk Very many thanks to Waldek for taking this on. Aaron Sloman Sun Mar 13 22:24:39 GMT 2005 http://www.cs.bham.ac.uk/~axs/
